A homeowner’s association can improve the quality and appeal of your community when leveraged the right way. Often, the most successful HOA’s are the ones with active involvement from community members.

If you desire to have a greater influence on your HOA, here are some tips to help you get involved.

Stay informed

Active homeowner’s associations will periodically share information with their members. You may receive communication regarding social events, crime, amenities and upcoming meetings. Reading these messages can help you stay informed about what happens in your community. According to U.S. News, you will also receive information about changes to HOA rules or requirements. Making a habit of reading any communication you receive from your HOA may help you prevent consequences for violating covenants you may have overlooked.

Participate in meetings

When you are actively involved in your community and informed of the latest news, you can feel prepared and confident to participate in HOA meetings. You may even consider becoming a board member where you can participate more directly in important tasks including the following:
