Kevin T. Rhine was born and raised in San Diego County. Kevin graduated from UCSD with a B.A. in Political Science. Thereafter, Kevin attended law school at the California Western School of Law and graduated in two years. During law school, Kevin received several awards for excellence in moot court competitions, trial advocacy classes and evidence classes. After graduating law school, Kevin interned for the California Attorney General’s Office while waiting for the California bar exam which Kevin passed on his first attempt.
Since receiving his law license, Kevin has practiced primarily in civil litigation with a focus on real property disputes, HOA disputes, business disputes, and labor claims. Kevin has tried numerous HOA cases, and has become Gregory M. Garrison, APC’s lead attorney in regard to HOA law. Kevin has also drafted and argued several appeals, and is Gregory M. Garrison, APC’s primary appellate attorney.
Kevin has tried approximately 10 cases to verdict, most of which have been jury trials. Some examples of Kevin’s success at trial include:
- Successful lawsuit involving contractual rights, land rights and water rights. Kevin represented a landowner who sued the developer in a contract, land and water right dispute. After a two-week jury trial, Kevin obtained a verdict of $3,500,00.00 for his client.
- Successful lawsuit involving two parties in a duplex. Kevin’s clients were sued by their neighbors in a duplex for alleged CC&R violations. Kevin filed a cross-complaint on behalf of his clients, alleging that the neighbors were committing trespasses and were causing a nuisance. After a jury trial, Kevin’s clients received verdict in the amount of $500,000.00 in damages and over $200,000.00 in attorney’s fees.
- Successful lawsuit involving two neighbors in a condominium. Kevin represented owners of a condominium in a homeowner’s association. The HOA and a neighbor both separately sued Kevin’s clients, alleging that Kevin’s clients were in violation of the HOA’s governing documents. Kevin’s clients ultimately succeeded on all aspects of the case. Kevin obtained a settlement of approximately $200,000.00 from the HOA and a complete dismissal of the neighbor’s lawsuit. Kevin’s clients were also awarded a little less than $200,000.00 in attorney’s fees for successfully defending against the neighbor’s lawsuit.
- Successful defense of a corporation and its directors against a lawsuit by a former director who sought millions of dollars in damages, based upon the former director’s allegations that he was a 50% owner of the company and had experienced age discrimination. Kevin’s clients obtained a complete defense victory.
